What should I consider before euthanizing my pet?

There are a lot of factors that go into the decision to euthanize your pet. We understand it’s not an easy choice to make and can provide you with all the information you need to make the best decision. One major consideration to take is if your pet’s current condition impacts the quality of their life. This could mean they might be:

  • Sleeping more than usual
  • Engaging or playing less with loved ones
  • Spending less time on activities they enjoy like playing
  • Hiding from you or your family
  • Behaving out of the ordinary or unlike their usual selves
  • Experiencing pain or discomfort

    What happens during the procedure?

Once you’ve made the decision to euthanize your pet, our veterinary team will go through the procedure, step by step, with you. This is the time to ask questions or share concerns you might have so we can address them. Once your pet is comfortable and settled, euthanasia medicine will be administered. It only takes a few moments for your pet to become unconscious. After their heart and brain stop working, they’ll transition. The goal of euthanasia is to peacefully and respectfully end your pet’s life, ensuring they feel as little discomfort as possible.

How can I honour my pet?

Your furry family member’s life should be honoured with whatever ways you and your family member think will be best. This might mean memorializing your pet with a small service or object to celebrate their life. Leading up to their appointment, make sure you and your family spend time making memories with your pet as well as surrounding them with love.
